The Details
Here's a collection of images detailing all the special aspects of the house that made us fall in love with the place. Though each in its own right is special, its the culmination of all this (and more) that will inspire you to make 109 Mayfield home.

The front step house letters.

The front porch has the original slated roof and antique light fixture.

The view from the backyard hammock of the tree that gives restful shade all summer long.

View from landing into full bathroom.

View down stairs to one of two custom stained glass windows. The handrail was recently completed to match authentic style of house.

Vent cover in Master bedroom.

The house still has the original doors (many of which have been restored) and hardware (in good working order).

The house has a unique collection of switch place covers throughout.

Exterior & Gardens
Our home we repainted completely 2 summers ago (the top cedar shake was replaced and repainted last summer.) In addition, the entire property was professionally landscaped with a wonderful blend of perennial plants (no cost spent each summer replanting to put color in front of the house!) The rock retaining wall out front helps keep traffic off the lawn and also sets the house apart from the others on the street. If you love gardening or relaxing on the deck, this place is for you.

Front of house boasts well-maintained original windows to keep the true character of the home alive (side and back has easy-to-clean vinyl casement windows.)

The cedar shake was replaced and repainted last summer. The roof is only 8 years old.

View of backyard and 2+ car garage.

View of side of house (and entrance to basement stairs) has a large hosta garden.

View of back of the house and decking. The back patio is wired for outdoor speaker, making for a great end of the work week with music and a bottle of wine!

Second view of hosta gardens.

Garage roof was re-shingled 2 years ago. The driveway and retaining walls are only 1 year old.

The backyard has no grass to mow reflecting an eco-conscious way to landscape by reducing the need to water. Instead, numerous perennials line the grounds.

View of side of house. Plants here include a flowering rose bush, peonys, and lavender.

Kitchen & Dining Room
The open floor plan makes this house great for entertaining—a rarity in a house from this era. Though the modern conveniences make this efficient kitchen a dream to cook in, the original wood work, vintage style cabinets and inviting view communicates the warmth that makes a house a home.

Full Bathroom (Upper Level)
Our full bathroom has doubled in size since we bought the place. When we went to gut the room we found a secret "safe room" with working electricity behind an out-of-date tub from the 80's. We took full advantage of every nook by expanding the shower and adding built-in-shelves. All electrical and plumbing work was completed by bonded professionals. Tub, sink and toilet are American Standard. And the light fixtures and appointments are from Pottery Barn. There is truly no house in the neighborhood with a bathroom like this!

View of built-ins. The floors are slate 12 x 12 tiles.

The original medicine cabinet was refurbished with a new frame. We kept the vintage glass in place since it seemed so historic. Custom linen roman shades keep one's privacy.

Shower tile is a combination of subway tile (in the original style of the house) and hand blown glass tiles from the Walker-Zanger Luxury Collection. The partial glass wall helps keep the room open and airy. Best of all, there's a large inset shelf to hold shampoo and more.

Clsoe up of shower tile detail (not reflective of color though).
